📸 How to photograph hail damage

  • 1.Stand back about 6 feet so the entire panel is visible — hood, roof, trunk, or door. This shows the full extent of the damage.
  • 2.Shoot at an angle — avoid shooting straight on. An angled shot catches the light across the surface and makes the dents much easier to see.
  • 3.Cover each panel — take a separate photo for each affected area (hood, roof, trunk, doors).
  • 4.Use natural light — avoid flash. Shade or overcast light works best to reveal the dent depth.

📸 How to take the best photos

  • 1.Stand back about 6 feet from the vehicle so the full panel is in frame — hood, roof, trunk, or door. This shows the overall extent of the damage.
  • 2.Shoot at an angle — don't point the camera straight on. An angled shot catches light raking across the surface, making the dents far easier to see.
  • 3.One photo per panel — take a separate shot for each affected area (hood, roof, trunk, each door).
  • 4.Use natural light — avoid flash. Overcast or shaded light works best to reveal dent depth.
